Reflection:
For this standard, I chose to include several artifacts that demonstrate just a few of the many tools that I use to monitor student learning. Pictured above, you will see images of my Quizlet online vocabulary list. This site allows me to see which students have been practicing the words, and will let me know what the most troublesome words are for the students. This site is an efficient way to check for understanding so I know what I need to re teach in class. Also pictured above is an image of a Google form. I often this tool to collect homework and as a method of delivering quizzes. The answers are collected in a spreadsheet and allow me to give the students quick and informative feedback on their work.
I have also included a link to my Reading Workshop blog. Reading Workshop is our independent reading program for the high school. In this program, the students are responsible for reading 1 book of their choosing per quarter. In order to make sure the students understand the underlying meanings in their books throughout the quarter, I periodically post generic active reading questions to which the students are to respond. On this blog, under the "Useful Documents" tab, I have provided the students
with expectations for their question responses and their quarter projects.
These expectations are public so that both students and parents can access the information.
I feel that these artifacts demonstrate my competency in Standard 5
in that it shows my ability to communicate expectations to students and
parents, align classroom instruction to assessments, use the results of
assessments to guide instruction, and to provide a means of goal-setting
for students.
