Reflection:
I have included several images that are evidence of my mastery of Standard 6. In the image box at the top of this page, you will see examples of classroom management techniques and policies in my room. Pictured first is the "Gadget Slammer". This is a new tool to my room this quarter. It serves as a type of "jail" for phones, computers, and other devices that the students are not using correctly during instructional time. Each student receives a warning before the device is relocated to the Gadget Slammer. If a device is "captured", it remains in the slammer until the end of the class period. If the device becomes a frequent visitor to the Gadget Slammer, there are further consequences for the student. Students may also voluntarily place their devices in the Gadget Slammer at the beginning of class if they feel they will be tempted to get off task. In this scenario, the device is released at the end of class with no further consequences.
You will also see two pictures of posters that are displayed on the walls of my classroom. They detail study hall policies, and social media posting guidelines. In addition, I have included a link to my class expectations that are posted to my blog and are created in collaboration with the students at the beginning of the school year.
I feel that these artifacts demonstrate my competence in Standard 6 in that they are proof that I "create a learning community tat encourages positive social interaction, active engagement, and self-regulation for every student." They also show that I implement procedures that support high expectations for learning, communicate these expectations to the students, use instructional time effectively, and create a safe and purposeful learning environment.
